Greetings and Happy New Year (for those who use the Gregorian calendar),

I hope you plan to submit a paper or symposium for presentation at the 2009 Academy of Management conference. If you do, PLEASE try to follow the submission guidelines.  They can be found at: http://meeting.aomonline.org/2009/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91:scholarlyguidelines&catid=39:subguidelines&Itemid=86

To this point, a distressing percent of paper submissions have failed to follow the guidelines in important ways. It takes time for me to communicate individually with submitters to ask them to correct their submissions, and time will be lacking as we approach the deadline. The most common mistakes are

    • failing to use the submission ID as the running head
    • failing to number the pages
    • failing to include an abstract
Although less critical, the references, tables, etc. should follow the formatting guidelines of the Academy of Management Journal. They can be found at

    http://journals.aomonline.org/amj/style_guide.pdf

Finally, the appropriate paper size is 8.5 x 11, not A4.

The guidelines are designed to help reviewers complete their task. For example, they can't submit their review if they do not know the paper's ID, the abstract facilitated comprehension by giving them an initial understanding of the content of the paper, and it is difficult for them to refer to specific pages in their comments to the submitter if the pages are not numbered. In general, it is easier to comprehend the content if the reviewer does not need to devote cognitive capacity to figuring out other aspects of the paper.

Thank you for your help with this. I look forward to reading your papers.

    Regards,
    David

p.s. Please share this information with colleagues who may not be on the GDO listserve. They apply to submissions to all divisions and I suspect the other program chairs are experiencing the same problems.
