The GDO List-Serve will not accept attachments, so any interested
graduate students will have to check the website.

Subject: Summer research opportunities for US graduate students in Japan
and elsewhere in the East Asia Pacific Region

    Dear Colleagues:
Hello from the NSF Tokyo Regional Office.

I would like to bring to your attention a wonderful program for US
graduate students called the East Asia Pacific Summer Institute Program
(EAPSI: http://nsfsi.org/). The program sends students to Japan, China,
Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand for summer research
experience. Proposals are due Second Tuesday in December every year.

The EAPSI-Japan is supported jointly with JSPS (Japan Society for the
Promotion of Science) and has been going on since 1990. For the past 2
summers, I have interacted with these students (63 in each summer - we
have 65 slots) and am totally convinced of the value of this program not
only for their future career development but for the future of US S&E. I
also am surprised that many of my NSF colleagues are not aware of this
    program.

So, I am writing today to ask your help in spreading the word about this
program. I have attached two flyers - NSF's general EAPSI flyer and
JSPS' flyer for the Japan program. I know now is the season for panels,
and I would appreciate your sharing this information with your panel
members. Also, if you could forward the flyers to as many of your
contacts in your community as possible, that would be hugely
    appreciated.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the program and
please feel free to forward any inquiries about this program directly to
the NSF Tokyo Office (nsftokyo@nsf.gov) or me (mdilwort@nsf.gov).

    With best regards, Machi
