    As always, apologies for cross-postings!

PDW: Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Sponsors: Conflict Management and HR Divisions

    Saturday, August 6, 3:15 – 6:15

    Hilton Anaheim, Catalina 4

Presenters: AOM Ombuds Committee members - Nancy E. Day, University of Missouri – Kansas City, Mary Sue Love, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Gregory K. Stephens, Texas Christian University

Employees spend an average of 2.8 hours per week dealing with conflict (Lawler, 2010), costing US employers over 380 million working days, or over $350 billion dollars, of lost time. In our lives as teachers and scholars, we also are at risk of increased stress and lowered productivity by not addressing conflict proactively and efficiently.

On Saturday, August 6 from 3:15 to 6:15, the AOM Ethics Ombuds Committee will present a PDW entitled, "Why Can't We All Just Get Along? How You Can Use Conflict-Management Techniques to Resolve Disagreements, and How an Ombudsperson Can Help You Resolve Ethical Concerns and Issues in the Academy or in Your University." This two-part, interactive session will help faculty address conflict in their day-to-day academic lives through a practical conflict-management framework and assistance in identifying and practicing techniques to address and manage disagreements with their colleagues, students, coauthors or supervisors.

As practicing faculty ombudspersons and mediators in our universities as well as members of the AOM Ombuds Committee, we will also address topics of special interest such as how individuals can work with the AOM Ombuds Committee or a University Ombudperson to resolve conflicts or concerns, or what steps they might take to establish an Ombuds Office at their University.

Please join us – no pre-registration is required. Come with examples and thoughts about past conflicts in which you've been involved as an academic.
