Zeitschrift für Betriebswirtschaft (Journal of Business Economics)
Special Issue No. 4, 2011
MANAGING DIVERSITY IN ORGANIZATIONS
Editors
Barbara Beham & Joachim Schwalbach, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany
Caroline Straub, ESADE Business School, Spain
Diversity management has attracted a lot of attention in both academia
and organizations recently. Globalization, migration, demographic
changes, low fertility rates, a scarce pool of qualified labor, and
women entering the workforce in large scales have led to an increasingly
heterogeneous workforce in the past twenty years. Organizations have to
address this increasing diversity of employees in some manner if they
are to compete effectively in a global economy. The creation of work
environments which address the needs and respond to the opportunities of
a diverse workforce, including various diversity policies and practices
and an organizational culture that values heterogeneity have been the
focus of recent,organizational initiatives.
The purpose of this special issue is to publish both empirical and
conceptual work on diversity management that shed light on
organizational diversity processes. The list below includes research
areas that contributors may like to consider, but other areas may also
be suitable:
· Studies addressing primary and secondary dimensions of diversity such
as gender, age, race, culture (national/regional), organizational or
family status in an organizational context
· The intersection of two or more diversity dimensions such as gender,
class, race or age and its impact on individuals, teams and organizations
· The role of diversity climate in creating inclusive organisational
workplaces (stereotyping, underlying assumptions) and its influence on
individual-, group-, and organizational-level outcomes
· The role of leadership in diversity management
· Implementation of diversity management practices and policies and
their impact on employee well-being and organizational performance
· Diversity management and work-life integration
· The effectiveness of diversity training (e.g., awareness training,
skill-building training)
· Comparative international studies on diversity management.
