  • 1.  AOM "Adopt-a-New-Member" Program

    Posted 05-16-2010 18:22

    Dear GDO Colleagues:

The Academy is beginning a new initiative to welcome and support new and international members during the annual meeting in Montreal. Its main goal is to create a positive experience at the annual meeting for new members and first-time conference attendees, but these initiatives also represent excellent volunteer opportunities for experienced division members.

Called the "adopt a new member" program, the Academy invites members from each division to serve as mentors to new members (from the same division) at the 2010 annual meeting. The experienced members will contact the new members via e-mail (details will be provided by the AOM), welcome them to the division, offer them guidance in organizing their visit to the 2010 annual meeting, and arrange at least one face-to-face meeting on Friday or Saturday of this year's annual meeting. The intention is to facilitate the visit of the new members at the conference especially since many find their first time attending to be quite overwhelming.

For those interested in serving as a mentor in the "adopt a new member" program, please email me by Friday, May 28. In addition to your general interest in representing GDO in the program, please indicate the following:

    1. How long have you been a member of the Academy of Management?

    2. How long have you been a member of GDO?

    3. What has been your involvement in GDO (e.g., presenter, committee member, etc.)

I look forward to hearing from you!
