Colleagues,
If you plan to attend the Academy of Management meeting in Anaheim, I'd like to call your attention to the following caucus on Monday, August 8 at 11:30a-1p at the Anaheim Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon F:
Continuing the Conversation on Social Sexual Behavior in the Workplace: Building Research Agendas (Session#1023)
At AOM 2015, approximately 2 dozen scholars from disciplines ranging from management and psychology to sociology and legal studies gathered to share perspectives on social-sexual behavior (SSB) in the workplace. The emergent literature on SSB defines it as behavior that has a sexual connotation, that is not necessarily harassing nor demeaning, but instead consensual, commonplace, and even influential (Aquino et al., 2014). During our AOM 2015 meeting, caucus members presented their research on interpersonal dynamics of SSB as well as the role of organizational interventions such as policy and training. As a result of these discussions, new research ideas emerged, insights and conclusions were shared and refined, and at least 3 collaborations were spawned.
This year's caucus aims to continue to incubate new research on dynamics and outcomes of SSB at work. To that end, we will convene in small groups of scholars will further explore new research ideas and develop thematic projects to clarify directions for future research. We invite experts in social sexual behavior at work, as well as those who wish to learn, to join this conversation and generate theory-based empirical research programs that can help foster evidence-based management of flirting at work. If you have any questions, please contact the caucus organizers: Lex Smith (lex.smith@okstate.edu) and Brian Webster (bdwebster2@bsu.edu).
See you in Anaheim!
