The New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks applications and nominations
from the academic and corporate sectors for the position of Dean of the
School of Management (SOM). The School is an AACSB accredited school, with
undergraduate and masters level programs, that is featured in the 2011
Princeton Review's The Best 300 Business Schools. As part of New Jersey's
science and technology university, SOM focuses on technologically
oriented management education and research highlighting the management,
financing and commercialization of technology. Through its close working
relationship with NJIT's Enterprise Development Center, one of the largest
business incubators in the country, the school has a real world learning
lab for its students and faculty, allowing them to engage in activities
that accelerate the financing and commercialization of technology and
conduct research on management models and theories. The school has
approximately 700 students and thirty faculty and teaching staff.
Responsibilities: The Dean serves as the chief academic officer of the
School of Management. This is a leadership position with primary
responsibility for advancing the school as a nationally recognized leader
in technology oriented management education and research. The Dean is a
senior academic officer who reports to the Provost and works closely with
the Provost, President, and other senior officers to advance the
university's mission. Specific responsibilities include strategic
planning, program evaluation and development, corporate outreach, fund
raising leadership to attract resources necessary to sustain and enhance
the school, recruitment and selection of new faculty, and chairing of
SOM's promotion and tenure committee. The Dean manages the school's
finances and budget and will also lead SOM's marketing programs. The Dean
fosters interdisciplinary education and research initiatives and unites
the school around a compelling vision. The new Dean will be responsible to
lead SOM's upcoming AACSB review process which is already underway.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate and a record
of teaching and research that merits appointment as a full professor with
tenure in SOM. Candidates should have a record of increasing
administrative responsibility. We seek an individual who can span
disciplinary boundaries to build alliances and partnerships for SOM within
the University's Albert Dorman Honors College, schools of engineering,
computer science, architecture and design, and science and liberal arts,
and among SOM's outside stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a
dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to promote successful
teaching and learning outcomes and offer innovative solutions to the
challenges facing management and higher education today. The Dean should
be an innovator who will bring fresh ideas and can be the change agent
essential to the School's growth.
