    DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

    Position Description

    The Position

    The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications and nominations for the

    position of Dean of the College of Business. The College of Business is accredited by the

    Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and Southern

    Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The College of Business offers programs of study

    leading to the Bachelors degree in Business Administration, the MACC, the MBA and the

    EMBA. The Dean is the chief administrative officer of the College, responsible for academic,

    administrative and fundraising leadership. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and Vice-

    Chancellor for Academic Affairs and manages the College's teaching, research, and service

    activities. Further, the Dean is responsible for ensuring financial, physical, and human resources

    are effectively deployed and for developing, promoting, and maintaining positive relationships

    with all internal constituencies as well as those external to the College and the University.

    The position of Dean of the College of Business (http://www.utc.edu/Academic/Business/) at

    The University of Tennessee Chattanooga is an attractive position in that it represents an

    opportunity to take a collegial group of productive faculty at an accredited College of Business

    to the next level of achievement. The College already has excellent relationships with the

    business community and several external program initiatives.

    The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is an urban university of more than 10,000 students

    and founded as a private university in 1886. It became a primary campus of the University of

    Tennessee in 1969 and its 100-acre campus is located near downtown Chattanooga, in the center

    of a scenic metropolitan area of more than 450,000 people. Chattanooga has gained international

    attention for its downtown and riverfront development, public and private partnerships, excellent

    quality of life, and reasonable living costs. Recently, Chattanooga has been featured in US News

    and World Report, Outside, and Parade as one of America's most livable cities. Over the past

    three years, investments totaling more than $5 billon from companies such as Sanofi-Aventis,

    Alstom, and Volkswagen have brought growth and global business to Chattanooga. The

    achievements for the AACSB-accredited College of Business are many. Business Week has

    named the UTC undergraduate business program among the top 100 in the nation. The Princeton

    Review has also noted the UTC College of Business as an outstanding business school; this New

    York-based education services company selected our college for inclusion in the 2011 edition of

    its book, "Best 300 Business Schools."

    The Requirements

    The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate in a business college discipline;

    demonstrated teaching and research excellence at or exceeding the requirements for appointment

    at the rank of full professor in the College of Business; administrative and budgetary experience;

    the potential to lead the College and its constituents around a compelling and shared strategic

    vision; demonstrated ability to foster and maintain productive relationships with external
