2011 MSU Symposium on Multicultural Psychology - Occupational Health Disparities among Racial and Ethnic Minorities:

    Formulating Research Needs and Directions

    CALL FOR PROPOSALS

    Submission Guidelines

The MSU Symposium on Occupational Health Disparities among Racial and Ethnic Minorities invites you to submit a proposal for a symposium or a paper presentation. To submit a proposal, you will need to adhere to the format requirements corresponding to each session type.

Symposium. A symposium has multiple presenters who focus on a theme or similar content domain. Symposium proposals that focus on research, interventions, and/or policy are encouraged. Each symposium session is scheduled for 90 minutes. Participants in a symposium should include a chairperson and three to four presenters. A symposium often includes a discussant but a discussant is not required. Sufficient time should be allotted for audience participation. The submission requirements for a symposium include:

    a. Presentation proposal, formatted in Times New Roman 12-point font, 1 inch margins, single space, save as a Word document

    b. On first line put the symposium title. Titles must be 12 words or less.

    c. On the next lines, provide the titles and authors, their affiliations, and email addresses for each presentation

    d. Provide a 500 word general summary of the symposium highlighting the common themes of the papers. Also provide a 500 word summary of each presentation. There is no need for a summary for the discussant if one is to be included in the symposium.

Email your symposium proposal as an attachment to Dr. Kevin Ford at fordjk@msu.edu. Put "MSU Symposium Submission" in the subject line. Emails received will be acknowledged.

The DEADLINE FOR SYMPOSIUM SUBMISSION IS APRIL 1, 2011.

Symposium submissions will be reviewed and decisions to accept will be sent no later than MAY 15, 2011.

Paper or Poster. The Conference also accepts individual papers for presentation as a talk or as a poster. Papers submitted for presentation as a talk will be reviewed and if accepted will be combined with other papers on similar topics for a panel session. Each presenter on the panel will be given 15 to 20 minutes to present their research idea and findings.

For poster sessions, authors simultaneously present their papers, primarily in a visual medium, with key excerpts from the papers displayed on large boards (we will have 8' x 4' boards available for the posters). The submission requirements for a paper or poster presentations are the same and include:

    a. Submit a presentation proposal, formatted in Times New Roman 12-point font, 1 inch margins, single space, saved as a Word document

    b. On the first line, put either PAPER PRESENTATION or POSTER PRESENTATION or EITHER PAPER OR POSTER PRESENTATION if you are willing to do either delivery option.

    c. On the second line, provide a title that is 12 words or less

    d. On the next lines, list the authors, their affiliations, and email addresses

    e. Provide a synopsis of the presentation including the major issues, research questions, methodology and key findings. The synopsis should be about 750 words.

Email your synopsis as an attachment to Dr. Kevin Ford at fordjk@msu.edu. Put "MSU Paper or Poster Submission" in the subject line. Emails received will be acknowledged.

The DEADLINE FOR POSTER SUBMISSION IS APRIL 1, 2011.

Poster submissions will be reviewed and decisions to accept will be sent no later than MAY 15, 2011. Detailed information on poster presentations will be provided at the time of acceptance.
