This is great news! Thanks dt for spreading the word.
It's quite amazing how many people with leadership and engagement in GDO have gone on to serve the larger Academy in this way. From my perspective, it bodes very well for the Academy as a whole.
    Best,
    Bernardo

Congratulations to all the women that were chosen. This is great news.
I wonder what the statistics were like all the past years (it would be interesting to follow).

It may also be credited to the good job that the GDO (representatives and members) at AOM has done through the years.

    Best regards,

    Ronit

    Dear GDO colleagues:

I've been reading with interest the news about the Academy of Management Board of Governors.  While no one on the Board "represents" a Division (the members are represent the membership as a whole, because they are elected by the membership as a whole), the GOD Division seems to have been a great "development opportunity" for members of the Board.

Myrtle Bell and Jeanette Cleveland preceded me on the Board, both of whom had experience in the leadership roles in GDO.  I followed them and Quinetta Roberson followed me.  I'm rotating off the Board this year, but the board is now in very good hands!

I wish it were possible for the membership to see just how seriously the representatives take their responsibility.  For a board comprised of all volunteers who are extremely busy, the level of work is quite impressive.

So I guess the message is to keep up what we're doing--we seem to be developing good leaders!  --  Gayle

Adding to Gayle's message, I preceded Myrtle and Jeanette on the AOM Board of Governors as a Representative at Large after I served as Chair of the Women in Management Division (its first chair actually, at the time its status was elevated from an interest group to a division).

Yes, WIM/GDO has been a great developmental opportunity for many, of whom I am one. It is nice to see the tradition carrying on. Of course, we have had high representation on the AOM Board because we have so much to offer, including having been part of a well-run and inclusive division that has been held up as a model for other AOM divisions to follow.

    Best wishes,

    Gary Powell

PS to Gayle: Thanks for referring to us as the GOD Division in your message, seems apt!

Going back further, Kay Bartol, a founding mother of the Academy's Status of Women Interest Group (from which the WIM/GDO Division flowed) at a time  when AOM had only about a dozen female members, later served as AOM President. Our lineage in AOM leadership roles goes back very far.

    Best wishes,

    Subject: Re: Great News!

--  Gayle

It's quite amazing how many people with leadership and engagement in GDO have gone on to serve the larger Academy in this way. From my perspective, it bodes very well for the Academy as a whole.

    Rosemary,

Good idea. GDO had a historian once; I don't know about now. I have a timeline going back to 1973 and list of past chairs from 1973 to 2009 that I prepared for the 25th-anniversary-of-becoming-a-division celebration in 2009. I will be glad to share it, and it can be easily updated.

    Best wishes,

    Gary
