UN sponsored Global Repository on Gender Equality

    Dear GDO Colleagues,

Please take a look at the following email and attachments about a new UN Global Compact initiative to create a repository of materials on gender equality to better integrate gender issues into management education and research. They are seeking teaching related resources at this point, to be augmented by research related resources in the future. Many resources generated by GDO members may be extremely well suited for this Repository.

As you may know, about a million students participate in management education at the undergraduate, masters, and non-degree executive education levels each year in the US alone. The need for management education is exploding globally as well, in established and emerging economies. Thus a repository of the kind that is being proposed here has the potential to impact and inform vast populations of students worldwide.

Please consider contributing materials to the Repository or becoming a member of the new PRME Gender Equality Working Group. One of our own GDO members, Camilla Quental (camilla.quental@gmail.com), is on the steering committee of the Gender Equality Working Group – and she has just posted on this list regarding the initiative as well. Please contact Camilla or Patricia Flynn (pflynn@bentley.edu) directly with any questions or suggestions.

    Thank you!
    Diana

    Hi Diana,

Susan McTiernan passed your name along to me as someone who would probably be interested in this new UNCG/PRME venture. Here are the details.

I've recently become involved (as co-facilitator) with a new Working Group on Gender Equality sponsored by the United Nations Global Compact (UNCG) and its Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). I've attached a discussion paper that provides background information on the Working Group, slides I used at a presentation at the AACSB Deans Conference last week, and a status report on the Global Repository on Gender Equality we're developing. Initially we're focusing on teaching materials, e.g., case studies, syllabi, textbooks, etc. – across disciplines, and countries – to help faculty integrate gender issues into management education. These will be posted on a UNCG or PRME website. In the next phase we'll post related research.

We also plan on identifying areas where there are major gaps in resources available and creating a program whereby companies who have signed on with the UNCG and PRME can fund faculty to create case studies, etc. in these areas.

The Repository is going to be officially launched at the UN Global Forum in Rio June 14-15.

I've read your faculty profile online and would love to get you involved. Also, given your extensive networks through the AoM, including its GDO Division, I hope you'll be able to help us identify additional volunteers to help us develop the Repository. Key topics/disciplines in which we lack developers currently include Marketing, Law, Not-for-profit Management & Engineering among others. Individuals can start coverage of a new topic, or join an existing group. See the attached AACSB slides and Repository Summary for more details.

Please feel free to distribute this email and the attachments to individuals and organizations that you think may be interested in getting involved.

Even if people can't help with the Repository, they can become members of the new PRME Gender Equality Working Group and be kept informed of our efforts.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

    Pat
