    2. JBP News about impact and staffing

Our 2 year impact factor is 1.54.  Our five year impact factor flew up to 2.37 (from 1.7).  This is a major increase and such good news. Another piece of good news, we had only 7 self-cites to years used in impact factor calculations.  So, clearly our impact factor is not being inflated/manipulated. Finally, our immediacy index was super strong for 2013.

Immediacy ("An immediacy index is a measure of how topical and urgent work published in a scientific journal is")

Cites in 2013 to items published in 2013

    =

    16

Number of items published in 2013

    =

    33

    Calculation:

    Cites to current items

    16

    =

    0.485

    Number of current items

    33

This is a very high score  (e.g., this would be a typical value for our top journals).  Although these data can be interpreted in many different ways for good reason and do not necessarily result in higher impact factors down the road , it could mean that our 2013 crop of articles have extra high citation potential.

There is another index of journal quality that I believe is gaining steam. It is the H5-Index. There are some good arguments as to why it is a better indicator of journal impact.  See http://www.harzing.com/h_indexjournals.htm

For Journal of Business and Psychology the
It is the largest number h such that h articles published in 2009-2013 have at least h citations each

Like all indices, this is certainly not a perfect one.  But, it tends to be less finicky and more robust.

Our H5 index is really close to some fantastic journals

Personnel Psychology H5 index of 32
    JOOP 34
    ORM 33
    JOHP 32

Finally, I wanted to share some excellent news.  We are welcoming a new Associate Editor.  Welcome Kurt Kraiger.  What a fantastic addition to the team.
