Dear GDO and CAR friends,
There are often calls on this list for clips or movies related to different aspects of diversity. One of my students just shared a movie suggestion with me, related to cultural intelligence. It looks like an excellent prompt for discussions about career moves, expats, reverse-brain drain, attributions, and of course challenges of doing business and managing across cultures. Here is my student's suggestion:
Now onto the movie suggestion...I watched an amusing indie movie last night (difficult to find as it's still making its rounds on the indie circuit) called "Shanghai Calling". It's about a NYC attorney (of Chinese descent, but doesn't speak a word of Chinese) being relocated to run a law office in Shanghai for his firm. Immediately upon arriving, he makes every mistake a person can make, with often hilarious results. I won't give away the ending, but it's a feel good movie about cultural intelligence, or at least the lack of it. Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKjBRWh5RdE
Have a great week,
Corinne
