GDO PDW "Developing Women Leaders: Sharing Teaching and Learning Practice"

    Academy of Management

    Friday 1st August, 2014

The PDW "Developing Women Leaders: Sharing Teaching and Learning Practice" will be held on Friday 1st August, 1.00-3.00pm as part of the pre-conference programme at the Academy of Management meeting in Philadelphia.

The aim of the PDW is to share good practice and increase the repertoire of teaching materials and methods available to those involved in gender diversity and in particular, women's leadership programmes.

The workshop will include interactive group discussions and exchange of ideas.  We aim to bring together faculty engaging with audiences at different levels of education: undergraduate, MBA and executives/managers.  Participants are required to submit examples of their own teaching sessions, case studies or experiential exercises where the potential for learning is high. The workshop will provide an opportunity to receive feedback on how to develop and extend teaching practices related to gender diversity and women leaders. Group discussions will be facilitated by organizers.

    Registration deadline: 30 June, 2014

Participants are required to pre-register for this workshop to enable preparation prior to the session, leading to the sharing of teaching strategies and activities. Space is limited so please register early and send the following information to deirdre.anderson@cranfield.ac.uk.

A two-five page (double spaced) paper discussing the following:

    ·         The author's contact information and current, past or future teaching experience in this area (i.e. what course, to what audience)

    ·         An example of an activity or session design, which you may have used previously, OR you may be planning/currently developing. This may include ILOs, assigned readings, exercises and any other materials (e.g. short case studies, videos, in-class questionnaire, self-reflective exercise, media analysis of famous female leaders, etc).  These suggestions are not exhaustive and other ideas are welcomed.

    ·         A short reflection on (a) what works effectively in that activity (or how you hope it will work) and (b) what challenges you experienced (or may experience) in that activity and how you might want to develop further your teaching practice related to gender diversity and women leaders. This is an opportunity to get feedback on ideas in progress.

You will be allocated to small groups (approx. 5 persons) and asked to read the submissions of the other people in your group and come ready to discuss.

After receiving your submissions, Deirdre will email you a registration code that you will use to register for the workshop on the AOM website.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us.

    Kind regards,

    Deirdre and Elena
