Special Issue of Social Psychology
Measure of a Man: Outcomes of Gender Stereotyping for Men and Masculinity

Social Psychology is an international journal with a current IF of 1.89 (5-year impact: 1.76),
publishes original empirical and theoretical contributions to basic research in social psychology,
and has six issues per year with one special issue per year. The present special issue will
encompass research addressing the broad topic of the nature and consequences of male gender
stereotypes from multiple angles. Specific content areas could include the ways in which pressure
to adhere to masculine stereotypes impacts mens mental and physical health, interpersonal and
romantic relationships, emotional self-disclosure, professional advancement (including the
freedom to pursue non-traditional or stereotypically feminine career paths), self-esteem and
identity, violence toward women and other men, homophobia, support for feminism and other
socially progressive causes, competitiveness, risk-taking behavior, parenting behavior, etc.
Featured articles could examine the targets perspective (i.e., direct effects on men) as well as the
perceivers perspective (i.e., others judgments of men).
Manuscripts (typically 5000-8000 words) should be prepared in accordance with APA publication
guidelines as described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th
ed.). Articles for this special issue should be submitted no later than April 15, 2014.
