Abstract:
Although research on work and family issues has burgeoned in the past two decades, it is only in recent years that organizational scholars have begun to study the unique experiences of fathers at work. As Ladge et al. (in press: 2) noted, "men's increased involvement in child-rearing has changed the meaning and value placed on fatherhood," which may clash with classic views of the "organization man." The purpose of this PDW is to connect people interested in the topic of fatherhood at work--whether for academic (i.e., those interested in doing research on fatherhood) or personal (i.e., fathers interested in learning how to better manage work and life, mothers interested in helping their partners better manage work and life) reasons--through research presentations, a panel discussion with fathers in academia, and roundtable discussions.
