    ASAC 2016 CALL FOR PAPERS
    Gender and Diversity in Organization Division

    Dates: June 4 -6, 2016
    Location: Edmonton, Alberta

    MacEwan University’s School of Business in Edmonton, Alberta, is very excited to be hosting the 2016 conference of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC). The conference theme is, “Global Perspectives in Business”, came from recognizing the importance of small and medium-sized Canadian enterprises growing and expanding into international markets. Such enterprises will need to maximize competitiveness, profitability, and long-term sustainability in the global marketplace. The Gender and Diversity in Organization (GDO) division welcomes submissions on this theme or on any other topic relevant to the division.

    Paper Submission
    Original papers, written in English or French and not previously published or presented elsewhere, should be submitted electronically to the appropriate division on the ASAC 2016 EasyChair submission site (www.easychair.org) or accessible on www.asac.ca. To submit, you will need an EasyChair account. The submission deadline is 12:00 noon Mountain Standard Time on February 02, 2016. All contributions will be peer reviewed; best paper awards will be given by each division. Late submissions and submissions made directly to divisional executive members will not be considered. A style guide outlining the required formatting for submissions is available on the EasyChair submission site, as well as the ASAC website (www.asac.ca).

    Case Division
    The ASAC Case division has two streams: regular and cases in development. For the regular stream, empirical cases (i.e. non-fictional cases with clear decision focus) intended for use in undergraduate or graduate programs, including a teaching note, should be submitted to the Case division on the ASAC 2016 EasyChair submission site (www.easychair.org). To submit, you will need an EasyChair account. The submission deadline is 12:00 noon Mountain Standard Time on February 02, 2016. Submissions must follow the formatting specified in the ASAC Style Guide, available on the EasyChair submission site, as well as the ASAC website (www.asac.ca). All contributions will be peer reviewed, with awards recognizing the best case(s) submitted. For the cases in development stream, submit proposals according to the submission instructions on the EasyChair site by 12:00 noon Mountain Standard Time on February 02, 2016. Late submissions and submissions made directly to divisional executive members will not be considered.

    Symposia and Workshops
    Members interested in organizing a symposium or workshop should submit a proposal according to the Symposia and Workshop submission instructions available on the EasyChair submission site, as well as the ASAC website (www.asac.ca), and be submitted to the appropriate division on the ASAC 2016 EasyChair submission site (www.easychair.org). To submit, you will need an EasyChair account. The submission deadline is 12:00 noon Mountain Standard Time on February 02, 2016. Proposals can be jointly submitted to a maximum of three divisions; each division included in the proposal must be clearly identified in the submission.

    Submission and Acceptance Criteria:
    1) Individuals can be associated with a maximum of three submissions in total (including case studies, papers and/or symposium proposals).
    2) Proceedings Titles and abstracts of all papers accepted for the conference will be included in the conference Proceedings; this is not a published document and will be available to only the ASAC membership post-conference.
    Each division will select a maximum of 5 papers to appear in full-text in the conference Proceedings. The division will also give one Best Paper award and may also give a secondary award (Honorable Mention or Best Student award), as decided by the division. The authors of the award-winning papers may choose to not have the full text of their papers appear in the Proceedings. However, award-winning papers will be recognized as such in the Proceedings regardless of whether the full text of the paper is included.
    3) By making a submission to the conference, the author(s) of each submission agree that at least one author of each accepted submission will attend the conference and present the paper.

    Working under the direction of the Associate Provost for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, the Director of Equal Opportunity is responsible for ensuring compliance with the University's policies, and federal, state and local laws regarding equal opportunity, affirmative action, and non-discrimination.  This includes assisting in the preparation of the University's Affirmative Action Plan, and adhering to the Affirmative Action Policies and Procedures as it pertains to the recruitment and promotion of faculty and staff of the University.

     

    The University's Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action has overall responsibility for the management of the University's Employee Policy and Procedures on Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking; coordinates compliance activities under these policies and the applicable federal, state and local laws; and is designated as the University's compliance office for Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other equal opportunity, nondiscrimination and affirmative action laws.

     

    Responsibilities include:

    ·       Manage the University's Recruitment of Academic Personnel System, the online application system for faculty, researchers, librarians, and coaching staff. 

    ·       In collaboration with the Office of the Provost, review and approve departmental Standard Search and Evaluation Procedures.

    ·       Monitor the waiver procedures and provide affirmative action clearance where appropriate for officers of instruction, research, the libraries, and others applying through the University's Recruitment of Academic Personnel System. 

    ·       Manage the review of the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Policies and Procedures for the Appointment of Officers of Instruction, Research and the Libraries (CUMC and Morningside Campus) recommending changes and/or revisions as required by law or change in University policy.

    ·       Provide updates to the Faculty Handbook to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.

    ·       Work with the Vice Provost for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion to ensure that diversity goals are being met in light of the University's Affirmative Action Plan.

    ·       In collaboration with the Vice President for Human Resources, monitor the University's employment and compensation systems to evaluate their impact on women, minorities, veterans and individuals with disabilities.

    ·       Monitor the waiver from search procedures and provide affirmative action clearance where appropriate for senior administrative officers through Jobs@Columbia, the online application system for staff.

    ·       Collaborate with Human Resources to review and update the Standard and Intensive Recruitment Policy for Administrative and Support Staff.

    ·       Monitor, collect, analyze and report Affirmative Action data.

    ·       Provide training to faculty and staff regarding various non-discrimination policies and on issues of discrimination and harassment related to hiring, promotions and terminations.

    ·       Act as a liaison between the Associate Provost and a variety of University and outside contacts including but not limited to the Office of the Provost, Human Resources, the Office of the General Counsel, to ensure compliance with applicable University policy and equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and affirmative action laws.

    ·       Perform other related duties as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    ·       Master's degree required. 

    ·       Minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience.

    ·       Experience working with faculty and staff recruitment and promotions, including search committees.

    ·       Knowledge of regulations under the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.

    ·       Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to interpret federal, state and local equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations including Title IX, FERPA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Violence Against Women Act and other applicable laws and regulations as required. 

    ·       A successful candidate must have strong organization, planning, analytic and problem resolution abilities and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to remain neutral.

     

    Preferred Experience:
    Preference given to candidates with experience working in higher education.
