| Building a More Meaningful Academy Experience: Creating Connections in Today's Diverse AOM Networking in a Diverse AOM |
Based on last year's successful PDW at the Academy of Management, we plan to modify and expand on our initial attempt to help members learn how to build meaningful relationships at the Academy of Management meetings. This PDW will be particularly valuable to those who have difficulties networking in such a large organization, and to help those who perhaps find 'traditional' networking events difficult to navigate. This workshop also seeks to reflect the behaviors and preferences of the increasingly changing diversity of its membership. In this workshop, we uncover, explore, and demonstrate best practices in networking that appeal to our broad differences in cultures, English language fluency, and personalities. We hope to create a comfortable, nurturing environment for AOM members who feel excluded, are new to or overwhelmed by the AOM masses, or simply have difficulties with the larger unstructured networking opportunities at AOM. We invite members who wish to help break down feelings of exclusion within our Academy to join us in this PDW to make this an ideal space for everyone. We propose a structured format of activities, aimed at generating ideas and actions that will ideally create an inclusive forum for AOM members that will make them feel comfortable and empowered so that they can fully participate and engage in a variety of relationship-building opportunities at this and future AOM meetings
We invite all members of the AOM to engage in a session focused on building relationships among our various AOM members. If you are new to AOM, or a returning member, and would like to build a diverse set of contacts in an interactive and relaxed environment, please consider attending this session.
