Sponsored by the Centre for Workplace Excellence, University of South Australia Each year the OB Division honors the achievement of an early- to mid- career scholar with the Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award. The award was created in honor of the late Professor Larry Cummings, and is sponsored by the OB Division Endowment. The 2018 recipient of the Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award is Russell Johnson! Russell is an Associate Professor, in the Department of Management, Eli Broad College of Business, Michigan State University. The award committee had the following to say about Russell:
“Russell Johnson has a very impressive record of productivity, having published over 100 articles and book chapters (including over 40 in top-tier management and applied psychology journals) since receiving his Ph.D. in 2006. Russ’s research is notable in quantity and quality but also in its impact in the field of Organizational Behavior. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited more than 4,400 times, with an H-index of 36. Publishing across several areas central to OB, the crux of Russ’s contribution comes from examining work motivation and subconscious and implicit processing in organizational settings. In studying these phenomena, he has also made significant methodological contributions by developing innovative measures to assess key constructs such as affectivity, identity, approach and avoidance motives, regulatory focus, and leadership. Russ is a prolific scholar with a strong reputation, and exceptionally well deserving of the OB Division’s Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award 2018.”
