The IM Division recognizes lifetime achievement in international management scholarship with the IM Division Hyundai Motor Eminent Scholar Award. The award is selected by the Division's Professional Awards Committee, chaired by the Past Division Chair and consists of the three past chairs and two recent winners of the IM Division Hyundai Motor Eminent Scholar Award. This year, the committee was comprised of Nandini Lahiri (Chair, 2025 IM Division Past Chair), Julian Birkinshaw (2025 Eminent Scholar), Yadong Luo (2024 Eminent Scholar), Grazia Santangelo (2024 IM Division Past Chair) and William Newburry (2023 IM Division Past Chair). The IM Division thanks them for their fantastic efforts overseeing our division's professional awards selection process. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Tamer S. Cavusgil of Georgia State University has been selected as the 2026 IM Division Hyundai Motor Eminent Scholar! Please join us during the AOM Meeting for a special session where Dr. Cavusgil's work will be recognized, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 2. More details will be provided closer to the conference dates.

Tamer is Regents Professor and Fuller E. Callaway Professorial Chair at Georgia State University, Atlanta, U.S.A. He also directs the national resource center, Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). Tamer is an elected Fellow and current Dean of the Academy of International Business.
Tamer's professional career spans teaching, research, and administrative leadership roles in international business and management at Michigan State University (inaugural holder of John W. Byington Endowed Chair in Global Marketing, Bradley University, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and the Middle East Technical University (ODTU), Turkey. In addition, he served as Senior Fulbright Scholar to Australia and taught at Monash University. Tamer also served as a visiting professor at Manchester Business School, Leeds University Business School, and held the Gianni & Joan Montezemolo Visiting Chair at the University of Cambridge, the United Kingdom.
He is the founding editor of the Journal of International Marketing now published by the American Marketing Association, and Advances in International Marketing. Most recently, Tamer has helped launch a new business journal, Rutgers Business Review, featuring managerially relevant research for business executives.
Tamer has so far mentored over 40 doctoral students, who have gone on to become successful academics at major business schools around the world.
Tamer holds honorary doctorates from: The University of Hasselt, Belgium (2014); the University of Southern Denmark (2017); and Hong Kong Metropolitan University (2025). He was also named an Honorary Professor by Atilim University in Ankara, Turkey.
Tamer earned MBA and Ph.D. degrees in business at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and B.S. from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.
