Strategizing in a Fractured World: MNE Responses to Fragmented Stakeholder and Institutional Pressures
Aim and Scope
The global environment is becoming increasingly fractured. Geopolitical tensions in the Taiwan Strait, the ongoing war in Ukraine, instability around key trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, and growing rivalry between major powers are reshaping the landscape of international business.
For firms operating across borders, these developments translate into fragmented institutional environments and conflicting stakeholder expectations across markets.
The issue aims to advance our understanding of how multinational enterprises respond to geopolitical tensions and institutional fragmentation. We particularly welcome research addressing questions such as:
- What drives firms' exposure to institutional fragmentation?
- How do MNEs combine market and non-market strategies in response to geopolitical pressures?
- How do firms organize and coordinate their responses across countries and institutional layers?
- How do geopolitical tensions affect internal dynamics within multinational organizations?
