Global Submission Incubator for early-stage researchers

A developmental program hosted by the Global Committee of the OB Division, helping early-stage researchers shape and refine their work well ahead of submission.

The Incubator helps early-stage researchers think ahead to upcoming Academy of Management submissions and develop and refine their research ideas in good time. For the 2027 Annual Meeting in Seattle, the submission deadline falls in January 2027.

Constructive feedback from peers and experienced scholars is essential for advancing academic work, especially in the early stages of a project. This developmental Incubator, organized by the Global Committee of the Organizational Behavior Division, offers a supportive environment to help you shape your ideas well in advance of submission. It also provides an opportunity to connect with an international community of scholars.

The program is designed primarily for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-stage scholars, particularly those based outside North America and/or working in English as a second language.

Who it is for

The Incubator is designed primarily for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-stage scholars, particularly those based outside North America and/or working in English as a second language.

Up to 25 submissions are discussed in small breakout groups of 3–5 participants, each with one or more experienced mentors.

How the Incubator works

To encourage participation at earlier stages of the research process, the Incubator invites extended abstracts rather than full papers. Submissions outline the core research idea, including:

  • Research question and motivation
  • Expected contribution
  • Theoretical framing
  • Proposed methodology (if applicable)
  • Optional: preliminary findings and insights, including tables or figures

This format supports work in progress, including early-stage ideas that benefit from developmental feedback.

What participants submitted

  1. An extended abstract (1,000–1,500 words) on any OB-related topic.
  2. A clear indication of the specific questions or areas where they sought feedback (e.g., theory development, positioning, methods, writing).
  3. A brief bio (up to 100 words) including name, affiliation, current position, and research interests.

Good to know

  • Preference is given to junior scholars.
  • Submissions may be at any stage of development, from early ideas to more advanced projects.
  • Membership in AOM or the OB Division is not required.
  • Participants are notified shortly after the submission deadline.

The Submission Incubator is part of the Global Committee's year-round programming connecting OB scholars across more than 60 countries.
