    Dear Colleagues,

     

    Announcement: Change in SMS panel format – from in-person to hybrid.

    Session: #2166

    Date: Sunday, September 18th

    Time: 11:15am-12:30pm (London time)

    Room Location: Mezzanine 3-4, and Zoom.

    Title: Contrasting Forms of Organizing Economic Activity in an Open (and Maybe No-So-Open) World

     

    We had to make a change in our panel format.

    Our "in-person" panel will now be "hybrid."

    For those of you attending the conference in person, we will be in room Mezzanine 3-4.

    Summary:

    Given the current macro-level challenges and conflicts in the geopolitical and societal contexts, the roles executives, businesses, and institutions play are confronted by politicized economic decisions. We are seeing more and more corporations and executives as active (or activists) and forceful actors in macro-level dynamics. The panelists will discuss how contrasting and eruptive social, political, and international forces and economic activities co-exist and conflict with each other across business platforms, ecosystems, entrepreneurial pursuits, MNCs, within-firm decision-making systems, and corporate governance.  The profit seeking motive clashes with the conflicting stakeholders' demands due to the constituents' escalation of commitment in distinct and divergent ideologies, principles, and practices. What are the potential outcomes of persistent contrasting forms of economic activities? Who benefits and who suffers in the short- and long-term? Who would or could intervene, and accomplish what? Are existing management theories equipped to explain the changing dynamics and newly arising causal relationships?
