A NOTE FROM THE HCM DIVISION CHAIR

Greetings and warm spring days to all,

As we move through the last half of the term and get set for the summer, lots of HCM happenings to watch for.

First, congrats to all who have had papers, symposia, and PDWs accepted. Ingrid and Daan have curated an amazing conference program. If not already done so, pop on to the AOM 2026 conference site and get your hotel booked – they fill fast every year and “overflow” hotels tend to be far from the main venues.

Second, Geoff and his team have been busy curating an outstanding social event calendar for the conference, so plan to get in touch with all your HCM peeps while in Philadelphia.

Third, if you have not yet had a chance, consider nominating a colleague for one of HCM teaching, research, or Mosaic awards. Reach out to the Committee Chairs for info on nominations.

Fourth, Gorden and Michaela have been working on some great podcasts for the HCM community. They’re going to be unveiled in the not-too-distant future.

Last, your HCM team continues to work hard behind the scenes for our community – please, take a minute and thank an HCM exec/committee/student team member for their service.

Looking forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Deirdre McCaughey – HCM Division Chair

Thank you to all those who nominated someone or self-nominated for HCM's elected positions. Voting for those four positions will open in early May. Be on the lookout for announcements from us as well as AOM in mid-April.

Developed and awarded by the HCM Division’s DEI Committee, this award recognizes an exceptional scholarly paper authored or co-authored by an AOM HCM Division member within the past two years. The Mosaic Paper Award honors scholarship that advances health equity by generating meaningful theoretical and/ practical insight for systems, organizations, and their stakeholders, including communities, families, and patients.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS AND MEMBERS

Safe Gatherings

Volunteers for teacher-mentors for the 2026 HCMD Teaching Incubator

The Health Care Management Division (HCMD) Teaching Committee is beginning preparations for the 2026 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, where we plan to host the “HCM Teaching Incubator: Becoming More Effective Instructors” in-person. This professional development workshop is designed as an interactive, roundtable-based session in which participants bring teaching questions and challenges, and teacher-mentors help guide discussion, share perspectives, and support practical next steps.

We are currently gauging interest among division members who may be willing to serve as volunteer teacher-mentors for the HCM Teaching Incubator session. At this stage, expressing interest is simply helpful for planning and does not represent a formal commitment. Teacher-mentors would likely facilitate small-group conversations alongside another mentor and may be matched to topics such as connecting the classroom to the field, student stress and evolving expectations, course design or refresh, teaching identity and development, and artificial intelligence in teaching, among others.

If you are interested in being a teacher-mentor, please email Matt DePuccio (matthew_j_depuccio@rush.edu) by May 15, 2026.  Additional announcements about this opportunity will be shared later this spring, so please keep an eye on AOM Connect.

Matt DePuccio and Seongwon Choi – Co-Chairs, Teaching Committee

Global Committee

We are inviting new members to join the HCMD Global Committee. Our aim is to cultivate a strong network for collaborative and comparative research across international contexts. If you are interested in contributing to this growing community, please contact abi.sriharan@utoronto.ca

Abi Sriharan – International Representative-at-Large

Student Committee

HCM Student members,

Are you interested in becoming more involved in the Health Care Management (HCM) Division? Looking to build connections with leaders, learn more about the division, and make connections that will support you along your scholarly journey? We are excited to announce recruitment for the HCM Student Representatives!

What do you do as a Student Representative?

In short, we are the voices of the HCM students in the Executive Committee. We attend the monthly online Executive Committee meetings and represent the students of the division. We help organize the Emerging Scholars Consortium at the Annual Meeting, submit Program Development Workshops (PDWs), and coordinate the Student Social event on the Thursday preceding the official start of the Annual Meeting. Additionally, we co-chair the Student Engagement Committee, a group of students who work together to ensure that student voices are shared within the division. The position allows for a lot of personal input and creativity - anything that you think can benefit the students of the HCM division can become part of your role as Student Representative. Please note that the position may be for a one or for a two-year term: there are typically two Student Representatives who rotate every other year. The position will formally start in July 2026.

Why should you apply?

Being a DIG Student Rep is a fantastic opportunity. It allows you to meet, work with, and learn from many people in the HCM division. It enables you to consider the needs of students within the division and help facilitate these needs, with a lot of freedom and creativity in how you approach this. You’ll improve your leadership, communication, and organizational skills while building a robust and supportive network. If you enjoy working with a diverse group of people and advocating for student voices, then this might be the perfect position for you!

If interested, please send the following to by May 31st, 2026:

  •  your CV
  • a short summary communicating your vision for supporting student engagement and opportunities in the HCM Division
  • If you would like to serve for a term of 1 or 2 years
  • any additional information or questions you have regarding the position or interest

Applicant information can be sent by email to ren.lovegood@umb.edu

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Ren Lovegood – Student Representative

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE

We look forward to connecting with old friends and making new friends in Philadelphia, the “City of Brotherly Love”. The membership engagement committee is pleased to announce that we will be hosting two socials this year. HCM members are welcome to join us for the Emerging Scholars Social on Friday evening (July 31, 2026) and our PDW/Division social on Saturday evening (August 1, 2026). Venues will be announced later, so keep an eye out on AOM Connect and the upcoming newsletters!
