PDW Session # 447
Engaged Scholarship:
Navigating the Labyrinth of Academic-Practice Collaborative Research
Saturday 5:15pm-7:45pm ~ Feel free to bring you dinner and questions.
Hilton Anaheim, Avila AB
This PDW seeks to explore the realities of conducting engaged scholarship, iwth a focus on health care organizations, as a viable research approach to collective knowledge generation and utilization. The PDW will be of particular interest to researchers who have an interest in conducting studies that require or would benefit from a collaborative effort with practitioners. No prior experience with engaged research is required, and thus this session would be of interest to researchers who are curious about engaged research as a method. Although the setting of the research is health care organizations, the organizational behavior that is revealed through engaged scholarship has implications for organizational behavior and theory applicable to other sectors.
The PDW, moderated by Michele Issel, begins with a panel of four scholars. Each panelist will describe her experience in conducting research in collaboration with health care administrators and practitioners, and highlight subsequent lessons learned from those experiences. The panel includes Sandra Buttigieg, Sara Singer, Victoria Parker, and Rebecca Wells. The lessons learned touch on ethics, publishing, unintended consequences, importance of adaptability, and usefulness in quality improvement. The panel presentations are followed by interactive round table discussions of small groups. The table discussions are intended to engage PDW attendees in conversations that address their questions about the practicalities of conducting engaged scholarship, particularly in health care organizations, and the issues raised by the panel. Each round table has an assigned facilitator; the panelists plus Ingrid Nembhard, Cheryl Rathert, and Suzanne Woods.
We look forward to seeing you there. Again, feel free to bring your dinner to the session.
