    Research Grant Specialist

    Department of Emergency Medicine

    Rush University Medical Center

    Cook County Health and Hospital System

    The Academic Department of Emergency Medicine at Rush that includes the clinical Departments of Emergency Medicine

    at Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital is seeking a Research and Grant Specialist.

    The Research and Grant Specialist will be responsible for facilitating grant applications and research within the academic

    Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition, the Research and Grants specialist will assist the faculty and residents

    in writing grants, manuscripts, and abstracts. This position requires excellent writing skills and ongoing relationships with

    grant-making institutions. The Research and Grants Specialist will work closely with the IRB of both hospitals to expedite

    the approval of research projects. The individual selected will work collaboratively with the attending physicians within the

    academic Department of Emergency Medicine and will participate in the academic development of the residents.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    Develop individual grant proposals in accordance with each granting organization's preferences and follow

    appropriate guidelines.

    Coordinate funding applications with Institutional Review Board protocols, applications, and approvals, as needed.

    Responsible for budget planning and forecasting.

    Responsible for maintaining a detailed database of all expenses to all funds using Grants Manager.

    Responsible for preparing accurate up-to-date financial reports on the status of assigned funds.

    Participate in resident journal clubs and teaching sessions.

    Provide support to aid the post-manuscript acceptance phase.

    Job Requirements:

    Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or above preferred.

    At least 3 years of experience in grant-writing with a successful track record in writing and obtaining grants from a

    variety of funding sources, required.

    Familiar with organizations that award grants, identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.

    Experience in the area of grant-writing for hospital and/or university research projects, preferred.

    Strong computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point, required.

    Strong analytical ability required. Must be able to provide and use statistical concepts with regard to financial and

    budgetary procedures.

    Knowledge of all accounting functions is essential.

    Organizational and project management skills required.

    Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills required.
