Dear colleagues,
It is with heavy hearts that we share sad news of the passing of Dr. Douglas Wholey who many will remember was the HCM Division's Keith Provan Distinguished Scholar Award recipient in 2017.
The following is excerpted from an email from Dr. Timothy Beebe, Mayo Professor and Head of the Division of Policy and Management at the University of Minnesota where Doug was Professor Emeritus.
"It is with the utmost shock and heaviest of hearts that I write to inform you that our friend and colleague, Doug Wholey, died yesterday due to injuries sustained as a result of a fall on his icy driveway.
Doug joined us as a faculty member in 1998 and during his 20 plus years of teaching, research, service since that time, he had been known for his towering intellect and his unwavering commitment to colleagues and students. Doug also held numerous education and research leadership positions in the division, always volunteering to contribute to its continuous betterment. During a recent discussion with Doug, it was clear that he was enjoying his well-earned retirement and the extra time he was spending with friends and family.
Currently, I have no more information regarding the circumstances of his death or any forthcoming services. I will work with the Dean to keep you informed of things as we come to know them. For now, please keep Doug, his wife Dori, and the rest of his wonderful family in our thoughts and hearts during this period of extreme grief."
We send our sincere condolences to Doug's family friends and colleagues on behalf of the membership of the Academy of Management's HCM Division.
Sincerely,
HCM Division Leadership Team
