Partners in Health: How Physicians and Hospitals Can Be Accountable Together Monday, September 27, 2010 3:30-5:00 (Pacific) / 6:30-8:00 (Eastern)
With the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the coming expansion of insurance coverage, delivery system reform is more critical than ever. If we hope to ensure high-quality, affordable care for all, and decrease the burden of chronic illness, we must drastically improve the efficiency and value of our health care delivery system. To do this, physicians and hospitals - the core of any delivery system - must work together to share accountability. The ACA encourages this type of accountability through the creation of accountable care organizations in Medicare , and the establishment of an innovation center within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, with broad authority to experiment with payment reforms. In this web forum, speakers will share the latest thinking regarding organizational structures and payment reforms designed to improve physician/hospital collaboration and accountability. They will also discuss the roles that various stakeholders - policymakers, payers, regulators, and providers themselves - must play in delivery system transformation.
