=Teaching Academy Hosts "Reinventing Public Health: Shaping the Future of Public Health Education" Talk and Panel at Inaugural Forum-November 5, 2007=
This past June, the Association of Schools of Public Health and Pfizer, Inc. announced the launch of the ASPH/Pfizer Public Health Academy of Distinguished Teachers. The advisory group for the 28-member Academy, members of whom were drawn from nominees for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 cycles of the ASPH/Pfizer Award for Teaching Excellence and the 2007 winner of the ASPH/Pfizer
Early Career
in Public Health Teaching Award, is pleased to announce its inaugural Academy Forum to take place on Monday, November 5 from 1:30-3 p.m. in Washington, DC in conjunction with the ASPH and the APHA annual meetings.
Dr. Lu Ann Aday, the Lorne D. Bain Distinguished Professor Emerita in Public Health & Medicine at the University of Texas School of Public Health and the winner of the 2006 ASPH/Pfizer Award for Teaching Excellence will present on "Reinventing Public Health: Shaping the Future of Public Health Education" from 1:30-2 p.m. followed by a panel from 2– 3 p.m. entitled "Models for Supporting Innovation in Public Health Education" by Dr. Marie Diener-West (JHU Bloomberg SPH), on Endowed Professorships in Education; Dr. David G. Kleinbaum (Emory Rollins SPH), on Institutional Support for Teaching; and, Dr. Joel Lee (Kentucky CPH), on Succession Planning and Mentoring Faculty for Success in Teaching. Dr. Kleinbaum, winner of the 2005 ASPH/Pfizer Award for Teaching Excellence, will moderate both the presentation and panel.
Both the presentation and panel will take place at the Hyatt Regency Washington, DC on Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Avenue, NW, Washington, DC in room Regency A.
The panel will be followed by a closed Academy business meeting from 3:15 - 5:15 pm in the same room. Please contact Ms. Liz Weist (
