    Posted 06-06-2012 16:47
I' writing to call your attention to a symposium that is part of the ODC
offering at AOM in August, that I think will be of interest to many of us in
HCM. The presenters (a mix of physicians and social scientists are a lively
group. They'll talk about the action research approach to healthcare, with
as much emphasis on practical as scholarly outcomes. Details below:

Tuesday, Aug 7 2012 from 1:15PM to 2:45PM in the Gardner B room of the
    Sheraton Boston Hotel

"Because Right Action Matters In Life Or Death Situations: Action Research
Contributions At Individual, Team And National Network Levels Of Intervention"
This symposium will focus on the application of Action Research (AR) methods
in the healthcare context, including both specific examples and discussion
of how the Action Research paradigm can make both change processes and their
outcomes more patient-centered. Led by Hilary Bradbury-Huang, the symposium
    will include:

. Andreas Hellström, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer and Managing Director at
Centre for Healthcare Improvement, Chalmers University of Technology,
Gothenburg, Sweden and Svante Lifvergren, MD., Managing Director at Centre
for Healthcare Improvement, Chalmers University of Technology and
Development Director, Skaraborg Hospital Group, Sweden, discussing their
work as managers-physicians of a large regional healthcare program using AR
to incorporate different approaches to knowledge creation.

. Malina Lau, Development Facilitator, Angered Community Hospital,
Gothenburg, Sweden and Erik Olsson, Ph.D.-candidate, Centre for Healthcare
Improvement, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden,
discussing their "bring a friend" cancer screening project.

. Jenny Rudolph. Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School.
Boston, MA, discussing simulation lab insights into the dyadic interactions
at the core of AR work.

. Hilary Bradbury-Huang, Ph.D. Professor of Management. Oregon Health
Sciences University. Portland, OR, discussing action research on mindfulness
    among palliative care volunteers.

Vicky Parker & Health Care Management LIstserv:

Please take note that the AoM acronym is that of the Association of
    Management.
The Academy uses the capital letter form of AOM.
To eliminate confusion notify HealthCare Management of said differences.

The Association wishes you tremendous attendance in the future AOM
    Symposium.
