Dear colleagues, we are enthused to extend you an invitation to contribute toward a SIOP healthcare symposium proposal entitled, 'I/O's Team-Borne Role in Modern Healthcare and Expanding Opportunities'. Specifically, we are actively seeking contributions from leaders in the fields of teams research, health systems selection, health sciences education, and occupational health.

Briefly, the goal of the symposium is to educate SIOP attendees and generate conversation by summarizing empirical evidence for ventures related to current and future healthcare reform. Specific provisions in the Affordable Care Act guided our areas of concentration where industrial and organizational scholars stand to demonstrate leadership. We aim to present the state of these areas of opportunity for academicians and practitioners alike. The 4 topical areas for presentations are:

    1) Health teams research to stage I/O's entry, and current primary role, in healthcare. Summary evidence should briefly touch on team effectiveness in other industries, current state of team training of working health providers, and future composition and structural features of teams with concomitant training delivery platforms.

    2) Selection system designs and considerations for emerging value-based compensation criteria (clinical and 'soft' skills compilations). Empirical evidence may include selection system effectiveness for reducing health system turnover, reducing preventable errors (e.g., HACs), and improving patient experience and satisfaction. Evidence may also be presented on aligning selection system design with work design.

    3) Training of future providers through inter-professional education (IPE) development. Empirical evidence should include effectiveness of early IPE on learner competencies (pre / post-licensure), pre-licensure student empowerment toward self-directed IPE, credentialing of providers, transfer of training to workplace (including continuing medical education), and facilitator training programs.

    4) Training of employees and managers to increase workplace wellness program centrality. Evidence may be presented on ROI (premiums, disability, absenteeism, presenteeism, etc), enrollment and continued participation, as well as workplace versus satellite offerings.

With that, we welcome your contributions to help us build a strong symposium for next year's SIOP.

We request receipt of contributions by Tuesday, September 3rd to allow for adequate review and revision time, but we also greatly appreciate your expressions of interest as soon as possible.

    Kind regards,

Matthew Kerry, GT (mkerry3@gatech.edu) and Deborah DiazGranados, VCU (diazgranados@vcu.edu)
