Topic: AOM PDW: Tackling Multi-Site, Multi-Disciplinary Complex Research
    Date & time: Saturday, August 5 at 9:45 - 11:15am
    Location: Hyatt Regency Atlanta (Greenbriar)
    Sponsors: HCM, OMT, RM

If you are interested or currently engaged in a complex research project that involves multiple sites, disciplines and data sources-- join us for our PDW at AOM this year!

    Description:
As healthcare encounters continual change and growing complexity, scholarly research across interfaces becomes increasingly important. Research projects across contexts and disciplines have the potential to produce large- scale, long-term change in health systems. Additionally, multi-site, multidisciplinary (complex) research potentially lends to generalizability, greater innovative capacity, and more comprehensively-evaluated outcomes. Although complex research has many benefits, it also has its share of challenges. Our current capabilities for executing such complex projects are highly varied, even though this approach has the ability to generate non-incremental, highly impactful outcomes. This PDW aims to address the lacunae in understanding of successful multi-site, multidisciplinary research. The PDW will be conducted in two parts, described below.

    Part I: Panelist Expert Presentations
Part one consists of four panelists, each presenting a complex research project and describing experiences and important learnings. Panelists will address the following: (1) questions and issues amenable to complex research; (2) integrating multi-method findings; (3) selecting field sites and multidisciplinary experts; (4) (un)anticipated challenges; (5) best practices and critical learnings; and (6) publication preparation/outlets.

    The 4 panelist experts include:
    - Marissa King (Yale)
    - Laura McClelland (VCU)
    - Sara Singer (Harvard)
    - Julia DiBenigno (Yale)

**This part of the PDW will last about 60 minutes and is open to everyone without registration.

    Part II: Roundtable Discussions
Part two of the PDW will involve roundtable discussions that will enable attendees to interact with panelists and expert facilitators on how to think about complex projects at a practical level and in light of the points highlighted by the panel. Each roundtable will be assigned 1-2 facilitators experienced in conducting complex research.

Discussion groups will be created based upon common research interests and will be led by the panelists and 4 other facilitators:
    - Amit Nigam (CBS)
    - Patricia Satterstrom (NYU)
    - Jonathan Clark (UT San Antonio)
    - Valerie Lewis (Dartmouth)

**To participate in the group discussions, please email Mariam Krikorian at mkrikorian@hsph.harvard.edu to receive a registration code

We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta!
