Although increasing attention to errors in organizations seems to be well-placed by recent advances in the error literature, organizations constantly miss the mark of effectively coping with errors and learn from them. Partially this is because many organizations face unexpected errors that occur in an ever- changing business landscape, which is driven and shaped by powerful technological advances and frontiers. Existing error theories have yet to shed light on important questions emerging from these frontiers and rapid changes in business environments, especially in new technological domains. To this end, in this PDW we aim to contribute to management and organizational research by identifying frontiers in the error research, bridging error knowledge and practice, and creating synergies across the disciplines including strategy, organizational behavior, innovation, technology, and health care management. We hope to attract researchers and professionals who are particularly interested in the phenomena of errors and who celebrate theoretical development, technology advancement, methodological pluralism, and linkages between theory and practice. A better understanding of the phenomena of errors in organizations, especially in terms of the frontiers and challenges of future research, has the potential to advance established approaches to organizational effectiveness and performance, organizational design and processes, organizational culture and climate, and innovation.
