Errors in organizations are unintended and potentially avoidable deviations from organizationally-specified goals and standards that yield adverse – or sometimes positive –organizational consequences (Frese & Keith, 2015; Lei, Naveh, & Novikov, 2016). Organizational errors and error management become an increasingly interesting topic for scholars, partly as a consequence of highly visible strategic disasters, from the Space Shuttles to Volkswagen's "Dieselgate", Wells Fargo's cross-selling scandal, and debacles at Nokia, Blackberry and Kodak. Organizational errors and error management have been studied through the lenses of cognitive psychology, organizational psychology, and organizational behavior (Frese & Keith, 2015; Goodman et al., 2011; Hofmann & Frese, 2011; Lei et al., 2016). The scope and magnitude of the phenomenon, however, draws attention from scholars in strategy, entrepreneurship and organizational change. With this Professional development workshop (PDW) we propose that it is time to "open up" (i.e., broaden and connect) current thinking on the topic of errors and strategic error management. Animated by researchers on organizational errors and error management, our PDW invites colleagues for an exchange based on research projects across disciplines and sectors, including healthcare, aviation, financial services etc. On top of a short briefing on the state of the research, participants will be able to present short papers and get feedback from an organizational errors and strategic error management perspective in small-table settings. The PDW should be a community- building event where participants develop interactions and initiate future research projects.
